Sofia, Bulgaria – In a significant step forward for preventative healthcare, tech giant Samsung has announced that the long-awaited sleep apnea detection feature on the Galaxy Watch series is now officially available to users in Bulgaria. The innovation, accessible through the Samsung Health Monitor app, places our country among the 70 nations worldwide with access to this innovative technology.

The expansion of the feature's availability was made possible after receiving the prestigious "CE" marking (Conformité Européenne), which certifies that the product meets the stringent standards of the European Union. This, along with approvals from regulatory bodies like the US FDA, reinforces Samsung's commitment to delivering health technologies.

What is Sleep Apnea and Why is Early Diagnosis Key?

Sleep apnea is a common yet serious medical condition where a person's breathing repeatedly stops and starts during sleep. These pauses lead to disruptions in the body's oxygen supply and can cause a range of health complications, including hypertension, heart disease, and stroke. The problem is that many people are unaware they suffer from it.

This is where Samsung's technology comes in. Through its BioActive sensor, the Galaxy Watch monitors blood oxygen levels during sleep and analyzes the changes to identify signs of moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea.

With this new feature, more users will be able to identify symptoms at an early stage, which is key to preventing long-term health problems associated with this often-undiagnosed condition.

From Smartwatch to Professional At-Home Diagnostics

And while smartwatches like the Galaxy Watch serve as an indicator of a potential problem, it is important to know that they are only a screening tool. For an accurate and reliable medical diagnosis, specialized devices are necessary.

Here, Adapt BG offers the gold standard in home diagnostics – the ApneaLink Air from ResMed screening device, providing a reliable and precise method for detecting sleep apnea in the comfort of your own home.

How to Activate the Samsung Feature?

To take advantage of Samsung's new functionality, you need to update the Samsung Health Monitor application. The feature is compatible with:

  • Galaxy Watch4 or newer versions
  • Phones with Android OS 12.0 or higher

Important: The sleep apnea detection feature on the Galaxy Watch is intended for individuals who have not yet been diagnosed with the condition and should not replace traditional diagnostic methods or consultation with a doctor.
